What Are You Buying?
1. Microsoft Teams Certified Wireless Headset
You can get an Evolve2 65 headset that’s optimised to work with Microsoft Teams. It even has a Microsoft Teams certification.
Starting in 2020, Microsoft started certifying third party devices that are designed to offer the best Teams experience.
Microsoft Teams certified headsets have to meet two main qualifications: a dedicated Teams button to quickly join a meeting or check your calls and a premium microphone that can be used in an open office environment.
The Jabra Evolve2 65 meets both of those requirements. It has a Teams button and it offers great sound quality (more on that next).
Note: You can also get a UC-certified (Unified Communications certified) Evolve2 65 headset that’s optimised to work with a variety of calling software such as Skype, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and others.
2. Great Sound Quality & Sound Isolation
Considering its mid-range price, the Evolve2 65 headset sounds really good. This is thanks to its microphones and speakers.
The Evolve2 65 headset has three strategically placed microphones on the boom arm that allow you to speak clearly and reduce background noise. You could be in a noisy open office or working from home with your neighbour’s lawn mower hard at work and you’ll still be heard clearly on the other end of the call.
Sound quality is also great on the 40mm speakers. The soft memory foam ear cushions mould around your ear, improving comfort and helping block external noise. You can comfortably make calls, listen to music and watch videos.
Important to note is that the Evolve2 65 headset doesn’t have active noise cancellation. Instead it has sound isolation that reduces background noise when you talk in the microphone and when you listen to audio.
Sound isolation doesn’t work very well if you are in a very noisy environment such as a blender right next to you or someone playing loud music nearby. If you often work somewhere that’s really noisy, we recommend getting the more premium Jabra Evolve2 75 or Evolve2 85. They both have active noise cancellation.
But for spaces with low to average noise levels whether it is at home, in a coworking space or in an open office, the Evolve2 65 headset works great.
3. Up to 100ft Range
Most Bluetooth headsets offer a 30ft range. So the 100 feet range on the Evolve2 65 is quite impressive. But is it achievable in real life or is it just marketing speak?
Several people have tested and reviewed the Evolve2 65 and they say it can get to the 100ft range, but only in an open environment with minimal obstructions.
If there are thick walls in the way, the headset gets to 50-60 feet before distortion sets in. That’s still impressive. It means you can leave your computer or phone upstairs and get a coffee in the kitchen downstairs while still connected. You can go outside the office for a break while still monitoring calls on the headset.
Since the headset has buttons for remotely accepting and ending calls, you can essentially walk away from your workstation and keep working.
4. Long Battery Life
The other great feature we did not expect at this price point is the stunningly long battery life. The Jabra Evolve2 65 headset has a 37-hour battery life. Many users say they often use it for a week or longer before they need to recharge it.
The Evolve2 65 has fast USB-C charging. If you find yourself with a low battery and you need to make some urgent calls, just 15 minutes of charging gives you 8 hours of talk time.
5. Ergonomic Design
A good sounding headset is pointless if it’s uncomfortable. Thankfully, the Evolve2 65 feels comfortable on your ears even after hours of wearing it.
It is fairly light at 99.2 grams for the Mono (176.4g for the Stereo). A padded headband and memory foam cushioned ear cups ensure the Evolve2 65 headset fits snuggly without putting too much pressure on your head and ears.
The only comfort issue raised by some users is that the ear cups can get a bit too warm. That’s because of the memory foam, a material that’s known to trap heat. Taking regular breaks will help keep your ears from overheating.
6. Stereo & Mono Options
The Jabra Evolve2 65 is available in several versions. You can choose between a Microsoft Teams and UC-certified headset. For both versions, there’s a USB-A or USB-C option. The USB-A headset has a USB-A Bluetooth adapter and the USB-C headset has a USB-C adapter.
You can also choose between a mono and stereo headset. The mono headset has just one earpiece, leaving your other ear free. The stereo option is a regular design with two earpieces. It’s a great pick if you want something more versatile for calls, music, watching and other uses.
For both mono and stereo options, you can choose if you want the headset to come with a stand. The stand provides a handy place to store the headset, and it also charges it.
How Easy Is It To Use?
The Jabra Evolve2 65 is really easy to use thanks to the following features.
- It comes with a USB Bluetooth adapter for use on your computer. You can use the built-in USB connectivity on your laptop, but the adapter increases wireless range, improves call quality and allows easy remote control.
- You can quickly mute your headset by pushing the boom arm back. Unmute it by bringing it down again.
- A bright busy light that’s visible from all directions lets people around you know when you are busy on a call. It reduces distractions from colleagues or family members.
- It can connect to two devices at the same time. So you can link it to your phone and computer, so you can monitor calls from either device or listen to music or a podcast while you work on your PC.
What Accessories Are Included?
The Jabra Evolve2 65 comes with a USB-A or USB-C Bluetooth adapter that improves call quality and range on your computer.
You’ll also receive a 1.2m USB-C to USB-A cable for recharging the headset. You can plug the cable into a wall adapter, your laptop or a powerbank to charge the headset.
You will also receive a beautiful carrying case that’s handy if you plan to use the headset at work and at home.
