What Are You Buying?

Here are the best features of the Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 6.

1. Budget Business Laptop

Premium brands like Apple MacBooks, Dell XPS and Lenovo’s own ThinkPads make for excellent business laptops. But their increased performance and specs come at a higher price tag.

If you are looking for something more affordable that’s capable at non-intensive tasks, then the Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 is one of the best choices.

We particularly love how much value it offers at its price point. Sure, there are some specs that leave you wanting for more like the indoor-only 300 nit display. But, overall, the ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 offers good performance and a long list of impressive features for its budget price.

It’s not just good for business. It’s also a great pick for students who need a more capable college laptop, freelancers shopping for a budget work laptop and stay at home parents looking for a laptop they can work on in their spare time.

2. Sleek, Solid & Rugged

The ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 features an aluminium chassis with a 2-tone grey finish. The Arctic Grey exterior combined with the slime design gives the ThinkBook 14 a sleek look befitting a business laptop.

The ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 weighs about 1.4kg (3.04lbs), which is light enough to carry with you when you need to work away from home or the office. That said, there are other reasons that we’ll explain later why we don’t recommend the ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 if you are looking for a portable laptop.

Despite its slim form, the ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 feels solid and rugged. Lenovo says the laptop is built to US Department of Defense standards to ensure reliability and durability even in extreme conditions.

The laptop opens and closes smoothly on a single hinge. It’s a 180-degree hinge, meaning the laptop can lay completely flat when you open it.

3. Powerful Enough For Regular Tasks

Now let’s talk about the performance of the ThinkBook 14 Gen 6. Here are the main specs you need to know about when it comes to performance.

  • It runs on a 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1335U processor with a speed up to 3.40 GHz. Using Intel’s Turbo Boost Technology, the processor can go up to 4.60 GHz.
  • 16GB DDR5-5200MHz RAM.
  • Integrated Intel UHD Graphics.

Based on these, the ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 is by no means a performance laptop. But neither is it some slow and clunky laptop.

We don’t recommend it for gaming and it will also struggle with video editing and other highly intensive tasks.

But for most other things like writing, crunching numbers, browsing, collaboration and software development, the ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 is perfectly capable.

4. Large SSD Storage

The ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 boasts a large 512 GB SSD storage. As with most other specs, the 512 GB storage falls somewhere between premium business laptops that typically feature a 1TB or bigger SSD storage and low-budget laptops with a typical 256 GB memory.

The 512 GB SSD should be sufficient for most business and professional applications. If you need more than that, the ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 is expandable up to 1 TB or 2 TB.

5. 14” Anti-glare Display

The ThinkBook14 Gen 6 comes with a 14” non-touch display with a 1920 x 1200 high definition resolution (16:10 aspect ratio). It is not as crisp as some high-end laptops, but it’s fine for everyday work.

The ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 also suffers a bit when it comes to brightness. When working inside, the 300 nits display is plenty. But the moment you walk outside or sit by a bright window, the brightness proves insufficient.

And this is one of the reasons we don’t recommend the ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 for on-the-go use. If you find yourself having to work in an outdoor area, you will have trouble seeing what’s on the screen.

The ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 display has a refresh rate of 60 Hz. Not the best for things like gaming, but perfectly fine for regular tasks.

6. Ergonomic Keyboard for All Day Typing

The keyboard has been redesigned to make it more comfortable. The two main changes include having larger keys, which is great for those of us with clumsy fingers. The key caps also have a concave design that contours to your fingers as you type.

7. Great for Video Calls

Long gone are the days of laptops with terrible cameras. The webcam on the ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 is a Full HD 1080p camera that makes video calls better. It’s complemented by two microphones with intelligent noise cancellation and Dolby Audio for clearer sound even in noisy environments.

The webcam comes with a physical privacy shutter, so no need to stick an ugly piece of tape on it.

8. Integrated Biometrics

The Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 16 comes with two types of built-in biometrics for easy and secure access.

There’s a fingerprint sensor that’s integrated into the power button. There’s also an IR camera next to the webcam that’s used for facial recognition. It works with Windows Hello.

9. Plenty of Ports

The Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 offers a surprising variety of input/output ports, considering that it’s a budget business laptop.

They include USB-A 3.2, USB-C 3.2, an ethernet port, an SD card reader, Thunderbolt 4, a headphone & mic port, HDMI 2.1 and a Nano security slot.

With all these ports, you can connect the ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 to multiple external devices such as monitors, transfer files quickly, enjoy fast internet via ethernet and connect a wide range of peripherals.

How Easy Is It To Use?

Setting up the ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 is easy and quick. It comes already installed with the Windows 11 Pro 64 operating system, a great OS for professionals and businesses. So you don’t need to do any technical stuff to get the laptop up and running.

Once you’ve set it up, the laptop is a breeze to use. You can quickly log in using the fingerprint sensor or the IR camera.

The keys are easy and comfortable to operate. Lenovo has also made the keypad larger and smoother. Another feature we love is the F9 smart key that you can customise to quickly launch a specific program.

The ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 is fast and responsive, thanks to the fairly powerful processor and the SSD storage. Just be careful not to throw anything too intensive at it. It can handle some light media editing and even some lightweight video games.

Accessories

The only accessory included with the ThinkBook 14 Gen 6 is the power supply. It is a 65W USB-C power supply with a 3-pin AC adapter.

Of course, there are lots more accessories you can order from Lenovo for the laptop. Some of the ones we recommend include a laptop sleeve or bag and a variety of cables (USB-C, USB-A, HDMI etc.) to connect to other devices and peripherals.

Pros

  • Great value for money.
  • Good performance for most business and professional needs.
  • Biometrics – fingerprint & face scanner.
  • Solid build quality.
  • Versatile ports.
  • Upgradeable.

Cons

  • Not suitable for intensive applications like gaming.
  • Not bright enough for outdoor use.

Anything Else You Should Know?
