Bose SoundLink Revolve Review
The Bose SoundLink Revolve Bluetooth Speaker is the ideal option for anyone who wants uninterrupted music, all day/night long, no matter where they are. It doesn’t matter if you enjoy partying outdoors in the summer swims or having an elaborate, portable smart sound system around the house.
Delivering uniform coverage, a true 360 degree sound, full day listening and a water resistant exterior, the SoundLink Revolve Bluetooth Speaker is another release from the audio heavyweights – Bose. But how does it stack up against today’s range of advanced smart speakers?
Bose SoundLink Revolve Bluetooth Speaker Review
What Are You Buying?
With the recent smart speaker revolution, Bluetooth models have had to take a small step back. However, Bose is looking to change all that with their new model. The Bose Soundlink Revolve is a battery powered, tubular portable Bluetooth speaker that delivers great bass and overall audio quality despite the smaller size.
I’ve used Bluetooth speakers since I was a teenager and I’ve got to admit, there’s a major upgrade in the Soundlink’s quality – both audio and hardware.
Starting from the outside, this model is housed in an aluminum enclosure which gives it a fair degree of protection from all the clutter in my backpack. Coupled with the water resistance, you can still keep the party going outside even when it starts to rain. At the bottom of the speaker is a threaded mount that lets you attach the speaker to a wall or ceiling.
Now, let’s get to the real reason you bought a speaker – the sound.
The Soundlink speaker from Bose is engineered to deliver loud and immersive sound in every direction. Unlike other portable speakers, this one is easily identified by the speaker grid going all around the cylinder.
What this means is that if you place the speaker in the middle of a room, everyone gets the same experience with uniform audio. Bose incorporated a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that holds power for up to 12 hours. I can’t tell you how many times my guests have asked me how on earth that small, loud thing on the table still isn’t out of juice.
How Easy Is It to Use?
From the ergonomic exterior all the way to the control panel, the Bose SoundLink Revolve Bluetooth Speaker is quite user friendly. The tapered cylindrical shape makes the speaker easy to grab, pack and go. And since you already know it’s water resistant (IPX4), you don’t have to worry about damaging it at a pool party or out in the rain.
I’ve had a little water on mine, but I’ve never really pushed to see how water resistant the Soundlink is. Remember, it’s not waterproof, so don’t dunk it.
At the top of the SoundLink Revolve Bluetooth Speaker is a control panel with 6 clearly labeled buttons that go all around the top. There’s the power on and off button, Bluetooth button, volume controls, and speakerphone.
Depending on the volume you’re playing your music at, the speaker will last for more than 12 hours – 16 at the lowest setting. Once the power is running low, Bose provided a USB cable and power plug so you can charge it. You can also purchase a charging cradle so you can make a semi-permanent sound setup in the house.
Bose took things to a whole new level on the next user friendly feature here. Thanks to voice prompts, users can easily take calls with the built in speakerphone. What’s more, the SoundLink gives you access to Google now and Siri right from your speaker. I found this very helpful and part of the reason why I went for the SoundLink as opposed to some of the well-known smart speakers.
What Accessories Are Included?
With every purchase, you can expect the following items in the box:
- Bose SoundLink Revolve Bluetooth Speaker
- Power Plug
- USB Cable
Because of the ability to link with other Soundlink Bluetooth speakers, people typically buy a set of the Bose portable speakers to create an immersive surround sound experience. Another purchase that goes hand in hand with the portable speaker is a charging cradle to ensure your Soundlink is always charged. Personally I bought this hard case to store my new speaker.
What We Think About It?
- Loud, clear and impressive audio for the size
- Hardy exterior with shock and water resistance
- Long battery life 16 hours with excellent bass quality
- Simple, beautiful design
- Extra charging cradle cost
- Stiff buttons
Anything Else You Should Know?
As more and more devices around the house get connected, Bose is right up there with the best of them. Thanks to Bose Simplesync Technology, you can pair the Soundlink with any other member of the Bose Smart Home Family.
This will let you play the same song at the same time using different devices. Additionally, make sure you download the Bose Connect app that lets you switch between different Bluetooth devices among other functions.
The Bose SoundLink Revolve Bluetooth Speaker is a helpful innovation with more than one target market. It doesn’t matter if you enjoy partying outdoors in the summer swims or having an elaborate, portable smart sound system around the house.
The Soundlink truly does offer the best of both worlds. But from the review above, one thing is undoubtedly clear – the Bose SoundLink Revolve Bluetooth Speaker is the ideal option for anyone who wants uninterrupted music, all day/night long, no matter where they are.
